Radically Different.
“Listen carefully to what I am saying - and be wary of the shrewd advice that tells you how to get ahead in the world on your own. Giving, not getting, is the way.” -Jesus, Mark 4:24-25
In the book of Matthew, Jesus says it this way, “Whoever wants to be great must become a servant. Whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave. That is what the Son of Man has done: He came to serve, not be served – and then to give away his life in exchange for the many who are held hostage.” -Matthew 20:26-28
Then Jesus says, “Follow me.” He asks us to trust that His way is better. He asks us to trust that our ‘earned’ freedom is not as sweet as the pure and total freedom of trusting Him - letting go of always looking out for self and getting ahead – and instead, lifting our gaze to the One who holds all heaven and earth in His hands and trusting that Oneness with Him is truly our purpose. And this purpose is a Wonder beyond anything we can make up on our own. The breather of stars has plans for us; we might want to hear what He has to say.
“Then they were on the road. They preached with joyful urgency that life can be radically different.” -Mark 6:12
Lord, let your Spirit reign victorious in us so that we may keep our gaze on You. Amen.
