Longing.

Isaiah 55:1-5 “Hey there! All who are thirsty,

    come to the water!

Are you penniless?

    Come anyway—buy and eat!

Come, buy your drinks, buy wine and milk.

    Buy without money—everything’s free!

Why do you spend your money on junk food,

your hard-earned cash on cotton candy?

Listen to me, listen well: Eat only the best,

fill yourself with only the finest.

Pay attention, come close now,

listen carefully to my life-giving, life-nourishing words.

I’m making a lasting covenant commitment with you,

the same that I made with David: sure, solid enduring love.”

We all have longings for something more, and in our lifetime, we are given the freedom to choose what we pursue to fulfill this longing. And after we live in this world long enough, we discover that most ‘things’ are not what they seem. For instance, money does not buy happiness. Popularity doesn’t negate loneliness. More possessions does not equate contentment… We begin to see that the opposite tends to be true, and the old adage, “less is more” begins to come to life. Maybe the One thing we actually need and that would satisfy our deepest longing is right in front of us… maybe all we have been searching for our entire life is truly the ‘sure, solid enduring love’ of our Designer and Creator. Maybe, in the end, we will find that True Life is and was always meant to be that simple.
