Purpose and Grace.
“I’ve been carrying you on my back from the day you were born, and I’ll keep on carrying you when you’re old. I’ll be there, bearing you when you’re old and gray. I’ve done it and will keep on doing it, carrying you on my back, saving you.” -Psalm 46:3-4
Purpose and grace, grace and purpose. I really believe, and I long to believe in perfect fullness, that Jesus did not speak in hyperbole when He said, “And this is real and eternal life: That they know you, the one and only true God…” This is our purpose: to Live. To know Life. To be one with the Father.
He doesn’t want us and has never wanted us to be burdened to the hilt: “The god Bel falls down, god Nebo slumps. The no-god hunks of wood are loaded on mules and have to be hauled off, wearing out the poor mules – dead weight, burdens who can’t bear burdens, hauled off to captivity.” -Psalm 46:1-2 Burdens piled upon burdens. We turn to our stuff for security and not to Him; this is the real issue - not usually the stuff itself. Lacking contentment, Life, we weigh ourselves down in pursuit of what is already ours if we would let Him. “You’re a hardheaded bunch and hard to help. I’m ready to help you right now. Deliverance is not a long-range plan. Salvation isn’t on hold. I’m putting salvation to work in Zion now, and glory in Israel.” -Psalm 46:12-13
This is the Good news, He doesn’t give up on us. God continues, because of His Grace, to patiently reveal this purpose for our life, freeing us into His Infinite Goodness. “Can you picture me without reducing me?” -Psalm 46:5
I’m gong to finish where we started because I never tire of hearing His promise: “I’ve been carrying you on my back from the day you were born, and I’ll keep on carrying you when you’re old. I’ll be there, bearing you when you’re old and gray. I’ve done it and will keep on doing it, carrying you on my back, saving you.” -Psalm 46:3-4
